Gimme red lipstick and a bright purple rouge A shingle bob haircut and a shot of good boo' Hurry down, sweet daddy, come blowin' your horn If you come too late, sweet mama will be gone Come along young man, everything settin' right My husband's goin' away 'till next Saturday night Hurry down, sweet daddy, come blowin' you horn If you come too late, sweet mama will be gone Now, I'm raring to go, got red shoes on my feet My mind is sittin' right for a Tin Lizzie seat Hurry down, sweet daddy, come blowin' you horn If you come too late, sweet mama will be gone The red rooster said, "Cock a doodle do do" The Richards woman said, "Any dude will do" Hurry down, sweet daddy, come blowin' you horn If you come too late, sweet mama will be gone With rosy red garters, pink hose on my feet Turkey red bloomer, with a rumble seat Hurry down, sweet daddy, come blowin' you horn If you come too late, sweet mama will be gone Every Sunday mornin', church people watch me go My wings sprouted out and the preacher told me so Hurry down, sweet daddy, come blowin' you horn If you come too late, sweet mama will be gone Dress skirt cut high, then they cut low Don't think I'm a sport, keep on watchin' me go Hurry down, sweet daddy, come blowin' you horn If you come too late, sweet mama will be gone

Freight train, freight train, run so fast Freight train, freight train, run so fast Please don't tell what train I'm on They won't know what route I'm going When I'm dead and in my grave No more good times here I crave Place the stones at my head and feet And tell them all I've gone to sleep When I die, oh bury me deep Down at the end of old Chestnut Street So I can hear old Number Nine As she comes rolling by When I die, oh bury me deep Down at the end of old Chestnut Street Place the stones at my head and feet And tell them all I've gone to sleep Freight train, freight train, run so fast Freight train, freight train, run so fast Please don't tell what train I'm on They won't know what route I'm going

Atlanta Moan 04:23
Nobody knows Atlanta like I do Nobody knows Atlanta like I do The reason I know it is I travelled it through and through If you got a good woman here's a lesson I'll give to you If you got a good woman here's a lesson I'll give to you Don't take her to Atlanta, they'll take her away from you They've taken my woman and cut me to the bone They've taken my woman and cut me to the bone That's the reason why, you hear me wail and moan Can't you hear that depot whistle blow? Can't you hear that depot whistle blow? Blows just like it's never blown before Nobody knows Atlanta like I do Nobody knows Atlanta like I do The reason I know it is I travelled it through and through

Wildflowers 03:14
You belong among the wildflowers You belong in a boat out at sea Sail away, kill off the hours You belong somewhere you feel free Run away, find you a lover Go away somewhere all bright and new I have seen no other Who compares with you You belong among the wildflowers You belong in a boat out at sea You belong with your love on your arm You belong somewhere you feel free Run away, go find a lover Run away, let your heart be your guide You deserve the deepest of cover You belong in that home by and by You belong among the wildflowers You belong somewhere close to me Far away from your trouble and worries You belong somewhere you feel free You belong somewhere you feel free

Don't you mind people grinnin' in your face Don't mind people grinnin' in your face You just bear this in mind, a true friend is hard to find Don't you mind people grinnin' in your face You know your mother would talk about you Your own sisters and your brothers too They just don't care how you're tryin' to live They'll talk about you still Yes, but bear, ooh, this in mind, a true friend is hard to find Don't you mind people grinnin' in your face Don't you mind people grinnin' in your face Don't you mind people grinnin' in your face Oh, just bear, ooh this in mind, a true friend is hard to find Don't you mind people grinnin' in your face You know they'll jump you up and down They'll carry you all 'round and 'round Just as soon as your back is turned They'll be tryin' to crush you down Yes, but bear this in mind, a true friend is hard to find Don't you mind people grinnin' in your face Don't mind people grinnin' in your face Don't mind people grinnin' in your face, oh, Lord And just bear this in mind, a true friend is hard to find Don't you mind people grinnin' in your face

about

Manitoba Hal returns to the well of music that inspired him.

The songs on Back To The Well span his entire performing career and are standards that define who he is as a musician. Ragtime, Piedmont, Delta Blues, Folk and Tin Pan Alley styles all combine to make a playlist of mid-century American roots music presented in an intimate acoustic style that highlights his versatility, ease of delivery and confidence in the music. This is the work of a seasoned professional who has nothing to prove. And yet, walking between playful, sorrowful, joyful and novelty without skipping a beat, he seamlessly covers new ground in old familiar songs.
